What are textures?
From my point of view, textures are graphics which look as if they can be touched or closely resemble an object found in nature. Textures might include representations of stucco, brick walls, wood, snakeskin, bark, clouds, rough sea, etc. Some are produced by the same plot and pattern programs included in the categories above, others are generated by programs designed for the job. Many large drawing and paint programs, such as Painter, Corel Draw, and Photoshop, have the inbuilt ability to manufacture textures when required.

Textures are frequently used as tiles which join along all edges seamlessly. Some examples here are like that. A workshop on tiling is included in the 'Workshops' section off the home page.

Note that a few thumbnails show a section of the larger picture because when made smaller some textures cannot be seen at all!
